Invited Speaker---Prof. Shanguo Huang

Biography: Prof. Shanguo Huang received the Ph.D. degree from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), Beijing, P. R. China, in 2006. He is currently a professor and vice director in the State Key Laboratory of Information Photonics and Optical Communications (IPOC), and executive dean in School of Science, in BUPT, P. R. China. He is leading Multi-dimension Optical Switching and Networking group, and basically focusing on optical signal processing and optical networking technologies, especially on optical beamforming for radars, OAM detection, Cross-layer Optical network planning, control and management issues. He has been actively undertaking more than ten national research projects, published 3 books and more than 200 journals and refereed conferences, and authorized 22 patents in China. He has given 10 invited talks and worked as over 10 TPC Co-chairs or Members for international conferences. He published 3 post-deadline papers for ACP and got the Best Paper Award for several conferences. Prof. Huang was awarded the Beijing Higher Education Young Elite Teacher, the Beijing Nova Program, the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University from the Ministry of Education, in 2011-2013, and the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, in 2016 respectively.

Speech Title: Cost-Efficient VNF placement and scheduling in optical datacenter networks

Abstract: We investigate virtual-network-function placement and scheduling problem in optical datacenter networks, considering the installation/de-installation latency of VNF and the rapid variation of low-latency-demands. Further, multipath protection is employed to improve the survivability of service demands. As for small service provider (SPs), it’s impractical to have a large-scall datacenter network, they can customize virtual machines (VMs) provided by public cloud service providers (CSPs). In this case, how to minimize the cost paid to lease resources from the CSP, while meeting the requirements of service demands is an important problem. Hence, we also propose a cost-efficient VPS scheme (CE-VPS) in public cloud networks for dynamic traffic. The proposed schemes achieve good performance in terms of latency, spectrum efficiency, blocking probability, etc.
